Simply: a live system on CD, or an operating system that is able to load directly from a bootable CD, without any installation process, without any hard disk.
It is based on the FreeBSD operating system. FreeSBIE 1.1 is based on FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE.
Yes.
Our goals are mainly two:
- To develop a suite of programs to be used to create your own CD, with all the personalizations you like
- To make various ISO images available, maybe each one with its different goals and possible uses.
Yes ! Since FreeSBIE 1.1 it’s possible to use the BSDInstaller to install FreeSBIE on your hard drive, and then turn it into FreeBSD 5.3-STABLE by means of cvsup. Thanks for this go to Scott Ullrich.
This is a bug in the BSDInstaller that has been corrected in cvs. Scott “GeekGod” Ullrich has created an automated script that will correct this behavior located here. Simply download the script, mark it executable (chmod a+x after_freesbie_fixes.sh) and then invoke it (./after_freesbie_fixes.sh). The script will make a few changes: 1. Download and fix the video and audio detection. 2. Download the ports structure and untar to /usr/ports/. 3. Change the root users password and add a new user. 4. Turn off root users auto login by downloading FreeBSD 5.3’s ttys file. 5. Remove the freesbie user if you wish for it to.
This is a bug in the BSDInstaller that has been corrected in cvs. We will introduce a suite of after installation scripts that will take its place to further the configuration experience in our next CD.
Please write root as login name and no password.
This is principle impossible. Makefile and tools for making the FreeSBIE need binary files of packages for compiling them into iso/image.
