About

Firefly BSD is a commercially-supported distro of the free DragonFlyBSD operating system based on the highly reliable FreeBSD 4.X branch of FreeBSD with back-ported features of FreeBSD 5 such as ACPI and updated drivers as well as new features not in FreeBSD 5 such as 1-1 kernel threads and vastly improved TCP/IP networking.

It comes with complete source and binaries for the kernel, compiler, libraries, and userland utilities. In addition, thousands of contributed programs have been ported to Firefly BSD and are included in the 4-CDROM set.

The Firefly BSD 1.0 release features

A LiveCD that you can boot and run off without having to install anything on your hard drive.
Two compilers, GCC 2 and GCC 3, to maintain full backwards compatibility with FreeBSD 4 while adding the improved C++ support of GCC 3. The GCC 3 compiler includes the ProPolice security extensions to protect against buffer overflow attacks.
A parallelized networking stack that allows for better use of multiprocessors than the serialized approach taken in FreeBSD 5.
